Murella - a unique nickname in Gozo

The name of Murella Living derives from our family nickname. In Gozo every family has a nickname and when Gozitans socialise together they refer to each other by family nicknames. We chose the name Murella exactly because it arises and celebrates, like the interior design, Gozo’s unique social character.  Murella Living is part of the Jubilee Group of Companies, which addition to this bed and breakfast also owns a spate of other brands in hospitality and entertainment.

Our Story 

 
It all started in 1995 when we opened a seaside restaurant in Marsalforn called Otters. This was when our brotherly bond evolved into a creative entrepreneurial venture. Three years later we opened Café Jubilee, in the heart of Victoria. Café Jubilee concept, is that of a typical café of the pre World War 2 era . It was very well received not only by locals but also by the many tourists who visit Victoria.  This successful venture in Gozitan capital led to another in the Maltese capital . Café Jubilee Valletta was opened in 2000.  The Café Jubilee's success inspired us to introduce Jubilee Foods which nowadays produces a range of Gozitan delicacies, such as hand-crafted jams and chutneys, traditional pastries and the ever-popular traditional ravioli. 

Once these businesses were consolidated we embarked on other projects. In 2011 we opened Murella Pizzeria and Restaurant in the heart of Marsalforn. And within the next two years we opened two outlets in the same location – Candy Café and the Murella Piano Lounge & Cocktail Bar. Eventually the Piano Lounge was upgraded to an Italian-Asian Fusion restaurant called Moor.  In recent years we also opened a restaurant in Gzira which portrays our overseas. culinary experiences. Ayu’s menu reflects the outcome of what we refer to as our travellers’ kitchen. 

Murella Living is situated in the very building where we grew up. Our parents summer residence was adjoined to the next door building and was reconverted into this contemporary unique bed and breakfast in Marsalforn.

It has been a long journey for us, but there is one thing that has not changed - our involvement  in the day to day running of things. We do our utmost to nurture our employees with the right aptitude and motivation. Murella Living is no exception. One of us lives within the property to personally attend to guests’ needs promptly and effectively.
